Seth Boy is a Philippines-born Wellington bassist and composer, specialising in contemporary improvised music heavily grounded in the jazz tradition and with influence from his Filipino upbringing.
Seth Boy frequently leads ensembles of various sizes to perform his compositions and arrangements, from trios to sextets to full 15-piece big bands. His large ensemble work “Farewell, Sweet Stranger” was commissioned by the Wellington Jazz Festival and performed at the Opera House in October of 2022.
As well being a self-employed bandleader and sideman, Boy is the principal bassist of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band and a tutor at the NZSM’s Jazz Department. In 2024 he had the great honour of being named at the Filipino-Kiwi awards as Musician of the Year.
