Nick Granville’s Double Drums Funk

If you haven’t seen a double drums gig yet, you really do owe it to yourself to get to one. The energy from the two drummers is unbelievable. It was one of the highlights of the Jazz Festival last year. I have seen seven of these, each with a different pair of drummers. Each has a different energy and feel, but they have all been outstanding.

The band this week is Nick Granville – Guitar & Bandleader, Duncan Haynes – Keys, Darren Mathiassen – Drums plus special guest, Rick Cranson for the other drummer.

This band plays everything from funk to blues to jazz and everything in between, and has been described as a mash-up of Thelonius Monk meets James Brown.
