Warwick Murray and the Kingmakers
Friday, 16 September 2022 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Warwick Murray is one of the most entertaining, versatile, and well-travelled multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters in New Zealand.
Known for his humour and vast knowledge of many musical genres, he has played in over 30 countries around the world. Warwick has headlined events in Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, and the Pacific at festivals including La Serena international jazz festival, and Viña del Mar Jazz (Chile), Barrels Blues Festival (UK), and Queenstown Winterfest and Jazz festivals.
He has written, recorded, and performed blues, rock and jazz tunes while performing on a wide range of instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, ukulele, drums, and harmonica. His latest blues-rock release was ‘Smile’ by The Murray Brothers. This is an album of original songs recorded during the lockdown in New Zealand in 2020 by Warwick and his brother, with both playing all of the instruments. The album reached number 12 in the NZ Top 20 albums chart in February 2021.
Warwick has also enjoyed New Zealand album chart success with the Strait Shooters (That’s All We Have Time For, #20 2017), the Fabulous Murray Brothers (Sing It Chap! #6 2018) and Funky Jandal and the Murray Brothers (See you at the end boys! #12 2019).
An indication of the versatility that Warwick brings to his gigs is Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hendrix which he plays on the ukulele!
